Us, David Nicholls

 

In June 2014, I was briefed to design a proof for David Nicholls highly anticipated new novel Us, his latest novel since One Day, which sold over one million copies.

 

Working closely alongside the Head of Fiction Marketing Lucy Upton we wanted the proof to have a sense of the simple and strong graphic cover style from One Day, while still feeling like a new novel and not part of a series. Using an uncoated Pantone printed slipcase with a foiled black design and an inner book printed at 20 and 80% Black with gold foil on an uncoated stock.

 

The front design illustrates the locations in the journey that occurs in the book with a simple hand-drawn map, the design was incredibly well received with the same map illustration being taken onto the final printed books inside chapter breaks.
